The Republican Party of Upshur County is always open to those who share our philosophy and party principles. We will continue to welcome all of those who believe in limited government, respect for all persons, and the Judeo-Christian principles embraced by our founding fathers. Voters definitely want to see a return to limited government that is based upon the Christian principles and common sense conservatism that made our nation great. These ideals are the basic core beliefs of the Republican Party.
These are just some of the reasons that more and more of our friends and neighbors in Upshur County are voting for Republicans. They have discovered that their former party no longer shares their conservative views. While the hard working folks in Upshur County have not changed, the Democratic Party has abandoned them and their principles. After the recent elections in New Jersey and Virginia, it is also clear that the voters all across the nation have had enough of the liberal agenda of today’s Democratic Party.
I have had the privilege and honor to serve as your County Chairman for seven years. When I came into office in March of 2003, we had had only one elected Republican serving in public office. In the 2004 Special Election Run-off for State Senator, Senator Eltife carried Upshur County with 53% of the vote. At that time, Upshur County was the only county that Senator Eltife carried that did not have elected Republicans serving on the Commissioner’s Court. In November of 2004, that changed when the county elected its first two Republican County Commissioners since Reconstruction. And, in November of 2006, we elected our first Republicans since Reconstruction to county wide office. Today, there are 13 Republicans serving as office holders in Upshur County government.
We can all take pride in what we have achieved by working together and standing firm on our party principles. And, I am looking forward to all that we can accomplish in the 2010 Election Cycle.
